Is store-packaged ground turkey left in my shopping bag overnight still safe to eat?
I left a styrofoam container of ground turkey (still sealed in the container from the supermarket) overnight in my shopping bag. It wasn't sitting on the counter, if that makes any difference. After discovering it was still out about 8 hours after I bought it, I immediately put it in the freezer. Does anyone know for sure if this would still be safe to eat? I have been looking online for tips, but can't find anything definitive. I hate to throw it out, but I will if it's too risky to eat. |||If it wasn't on the counter where was it?|||Sorry -- out of the fridge for 8 hours is not safe to eat. Meat left at room temperature for that long will grow a multitude of unsafe bacteria including salmonella. Throw it out - it's worth the $5 bucks to keep yourself from getting sick.
